The skills I have demonstrated through my work in New Media Lab

I can write well-developed and supported articles for a general audience. I can write in specific details that go in depth with the article and make it flow nice.

I can control my voice and style to write both opinion and objective journalistic styles.

(Narrative) I can use the conventions of narrative to tell an engaging story that keeps the reader’s attention. The way I write the narrative keeps the article interesting in good detail to last the life span of it.

I can generate interesting and relevant writing ideas that can find an audience and contribute significantly to topics of my own interests.

I can research and evaluate the credibility of sources, and I can present information in an original way that respects and gives credit to the work of others.

I can use a variety of online tools such as email, online word processors, social media, search engines and content management systems to communicate, research, write, and publish my work using online conventions such as hyperlinking to sources.

I can embed media to publish multimedia articles to help the reader understand where some information was received from.

I can find and select images that convey the topic and tone of my writing in a way that understands and respects copyright and fair use. I credit the creators for the images and support them as they help me convey many images because of them.

Burnaby high school student optimistic about their second pandemic summer

Summer’s coming up and there is still a pandemic going on, what’s going to impact this summer a student thought. Another summer in quarantine? Or an excited busting out after over a year of pandemic blues?

For these Burnaby teens looking forward to summer, the future is uncertain but looking better.

Who knows what’s going to happen this summer,” Philbert Phington said, who is a 16 year old student. “It seems the government wants everyone to be vaccinated by the summer so we can have the freedom we once had.” Philbert said. “I would be pretty happy if we were allowed to hang out with people and possibly see other family members.” exclaimed Philbert. “Well, at least the weather will be nice so biking and relaxing outside is another option.”

“Everyone’s talking about how we might be vaccinated by the summer so we can hang out with people but, we get there when we get there”

Electronic Arts encouraging people to buy loot-boxes according to an insider

Electronic Arts Employee leaks information about loot boxes in the upcoming new FIFA 2021.

A worker for EA has spread information about loot boxes, about the company and the recent release of FIFA 2021

An anonymous worker part of EA has told some information to CBC News from the inside of the company. The worker exposed a document from the company. The document was 54 pages long and in it, it contains a presentation featuring bullet points and information about the upcoming release of FIFA 2021.

The document provides information about a game mode that encourages players to buy loot boxes to better their gameplay or maybe increases the chance of winning, for example letting a better player to be added to their team. To add on to the document and about loot boxes, there’s a bullet point that states “We are doing everything we can to drive players there”.

Loot boxes give players the incentive to spend money to have a chance to get something good which makes Loot Boxes guilty of being similar to gampling.

The situation has led Keith Whyte, an executive director of the U.S. National Council on Problem Gaming to warn people about the situation and explain more about it.“The features of a loot box are similar to a slot machine” Said Keith Whyte. “Nothing is more attractive — and in some people, addictive — to the brain than intermittent, variable reward.”

A lot of forums are stocked to the brim with people trying to quit from this loot box addiction. There has been many problems with loot boxes and many of those problems caused people to spend money from their savings and some even are in debt because of it.

“They are driving everyone towards the casino, basically.”

My Graphic Design

I based my graphic design off of I cool banner I used with my Twitter and Instagram on the sides with a maple leaf in the middle.

I got a cool banner template then added my own stuff to it so it reflects this blogging page. I used Photoshop to remove background of the twitter, Instagram, and maple leaf. I also used Photoshop to arrange the different images.

I made this banner like this because I wanted it to look cool while also showing the different social media pages and to note that I’m Canadian.

Plagiarism

What Is Plagiarism?

The act of which stealing information in its form and copying it and taking credit for the information you didn’t made. Plagiarism is considered to be some sort of act of fraud. There are many forms of plagiarism that are quite arguable if it actually counts as plagiarism. Plagiarism can be considered quite debatable in some sentences though. It’s a little bit confusing to consider what exactly counts as plagiarism. When it comes to images, videos, music, or other contents like that it has to follow the criteria:

  • The contents have to have permission from creator in order for the contents are allowed to be used.
  • Music and videos are allowed to be used be used as long as it isn’t copyrighted.
  • Making music doesn’t count only if it is performed by someone else that is the exact same music for example: music covers are considered plagiarism.
  • Trying to recreate images, videos, music, in the exact same way or in any way.

Many instances of plagiarism are possible to be avoided being mainly copying the URL of the source for an example. Plagiarism is very important when it comes to money since you can be sued for making money off of someone else’s work, which is the main reason why teachers don’t allow plagiarism also or course, LAZYNESS.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
